Power Coaching

Jane Lowenstein and Barbara Taylor, two experienced coaches and executive development experts, formed JanBara & Associates to address the issues of women in management operating in a business world still mostly dominated at the top by men. We began by focusing on the problems women create for themselves when they compete in the business world as men. These Power Women often do not form productive relationships that foster cooperation, team work, and effective discourse on work related problems or organizational goals

Our observations on these topics have led us to a broader view of the impact of Power in the workplace. There are those who use power well for the benefit of others; those who wield it to control and construct predictable outcomes; as well as those who feel powerless. For those who have power by virtue of their position or their behavior, or those who feel powerless, there is finesse around power that must be learned. At JanBara, we explore power in its broadest terms and manifestations.

Rather than leadership development, we call it Powership Development. These are lessons to be learned and applied at all levels of an organization. The mastery of power is produced by wisdom about human beings, the roles they play, what motivates them, the nature of conflict, and the critical nature of effective communication.

We teach people how to gain and apply that wisdom.

JANBARA'S POWERSHIP PRINCIPLES

  •   Individuals are in control of their styles and not vice versa
•   Individuals must choose the best options from the Powership Menu
•   Finesse around power can be learned
•   To achieve sustainable results, power women must change their
       approach and not expect others to do so

JANBARA'S GROUP COACHING PROCESS

The coaching process begins with a customized 360° feedback survey to highlight interpersonal and relational strengths and development needs. Once completed, each person receives a one-on-one feedback session to go over survey results.

Learners then attend a minimum of six group coaching sessions focused on the three elements of behavior change:

      *  Building Self-Awareness
    *  Building a Commitment for Change
    *  Acting to Transfer & Apply New Learning in the Workplace

Sessions will include:
    *  Case Studies of Real Business Situations
    *  Outside Speakers
    *  Relevant Books & Articles
    *  Group Discussion & Reflection
    *  Research on Characteristics of Successful Executives
    *  Personality/Behavioral Profiles

  Participants can attend additional sessions.
Individual one-on-one coaching is also available - and recommended for some learners.

Programs can be provided in-house
or your employee(s) can attend sessions with power women from other companies.
